The best way to relax, I found, was actually work. Plan a real getaway and get paid for it! I signed contract with Grand Teton Lodge Company and spent my summer in the most beautiful place in the continental States, Grand Teton National Park, just south of Yellowstone.

Just consider the perks. Utility fee of $40 (last year $55) a week included:

a bed in a furnished room , linens,

laundry on site,

employee’s cafeteria with 3 meals (no need to cook or do dishes!)

canoes, kayaks, horseback riding, white water rafting, mountain lifts, trips to Yellowstone, bus ride to town for shopping or any other needs,

Internet “cafe”,

you could even eat in the main restaurant free, just pay for alcoholic beverages and tip your waiter!

This sort of vacation has its downsides, though.

You will need a flexible schedule with the outer world, as such companies ask to stay for 3 months, but there’s always a medical reason to leave.

Housing: I had 5 roommates first, but was lucky enough – they ALL left after 2 weeks, so I rearranged it into 1-bedroom with restroom in the hall. Other dormitories had also 2-3 person rooms, don’t miss the RV park!

Food was great for me then. Forget the organics… No guarantee for food quality – each company takes care of the workers up to their own standard. Don’t have updates for this year yet.

Getting around: Usually company has a shuttle bus, but the place is so isolated, you are stuck without a car.

Cellphones: don’t work (+/_ ?)

Pay is below the minimum wage for some jobs, lower than average.

Still a great place to be and get friends and memories!
